Anniversaries

2/5/2016

Anniversaries often instill a feeling of love, warmth and excitement in us but quite often  an anniversary can mark a tragic and horrific time in a persons life.  Like the pleasant anniversaries, these should be marked and honoured with love despite the feeling of incredible loss.
Today marks the day a beautiful little soul left this world.  On the 5th of February 2007 precious Ava Rosemeyer lost her battle against the injuries sustained from hyperthermia after climbing into a parked, unlocked vehicle.
I did not know Ava personally, nor have I met her strong and beautiful mother Sheye, but this story always strikes a chord in me and makes me extremely emotional. It was soley Ava's story that cemented our decision to proceed with the dTec SAFEKAM.  When reading the circumstances that ensued that day, I could place myself in that situation.  I understood how it all unfolded and how something so simple could determine the rest of your life.
When I read the words straight from Sheye's heart on the KidsandCars.Org site..... "Most people wait for their daughters for nine months.  I waited for Ava my whole life.  I have always been a girly girl.  I adore my boys, it goes without saying, but I was desperate for a girl.  It's a good thing she did come along third time around...I would have never stopped making babies until I got a pink one. "
I could not get past it....  This was exactly my family dynamic, this was my thoughts and my life.... I too had my beautiful little girl after two boys.
But I could not for a second imagine the incredible pain she felt.
This is just one story, from one incident, from one family that shows incredible loss and grief, but this story is the one I will forever be motivated by.
Since reading Ava's Rule, I have thought about the Rosemeyers every single day and will for the foreseeable future.
Dedicated to a little girl I never met, but whom left a huge impression.
RIP Ava Rosemeyer.
